Description

A law firm focuses exclusively on representing clients in complex disputes. They handle civil as well as criminal and regulatory matters across the country. They provide experienced advocacy before judges, juries, and courts of appeal - including the Supreme Court of the United States. They also represent clients in regulatory and criminal investigations and conduct internal investigations. Their strength lies in the intellect, creativity, and tenacity of their lawyers and their experience in applying those to achieve great results for clients in serious matters.

The Finance Manager is primarily responsible for managing and overseeing the firm’s accounting, client billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, financial reporting as well as functioning as a trusted business partner to the firm’s partners and COO. This hybrid in-office/remote role can be based in our New York, Washington, D.C., or Chicago office.

This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly financial reports and communicate significant variances on a timely basis.
  • Execute changes to procedures, policies, and systems to reduce risk and help the firm scale.
  • Review the semi-monthly and monthly payroll files to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Own the annual budget processes and partner with other functional leaders to develop budgets as well as the monthly/quarterly close processes.
  • Prepare timely journal entries; perform requisite reconciliations including reconciliation of partner equity accounts.
  • Monitor cash flow and bank transfer needs with COO oversight.
  • Manage retainer, billing, vendor, and user data both in the billing, accounting, and expense systems.
  • Input client payments as cash receipt batches, ensuring payments are correctly applied to outstanding client bills.
  • Assist with ad-hoc financial analysis, modeling and special projects.
  • Become a subject matter expert in Power BI, ProLaw and other firm financial platforms.
  • Cross-train with Chief Operating Officer on payroll duties and treasury management to perform in COO’s absence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 5-7 years of accounting/finance experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior management/supervisory experience required; law firm experience is a plus. Experience with financial management and budgeting within a mid-size organization.
  • Knowledge of or familiarity with ProLaw and Power BI highly desired and strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Advanced skill level in Excel with ability to rapidly adopt new tools and systems.

Salary range for New York market:100,000 - 140,000 US Dollars (USD) Yearly.
